SERVER UPGRADE 18TH APRIL 2023
As part of a Glasgow wide server upgrade, every practice in Greater Glasgow and Clyde is getting a new server. This involves significant unavoidable down-time for every practice.
On the day of the upgrade the practice will have no access to computers or any IT. This means that whilst we can answer our telephones, everything else will need to be a manual system.
GPs can consult but will have no access to your medical records, be able to print prescriptions or update your records. This is why we need to keep patient contacts to a minimum where possible, ie all routine work must be moved to another day.
We will of course deal with all emergencies and keep handwritten notes of any consultation, but not having access to your past medical history, previous consultations, hospital letters, past and current medication as well as any allergies you have is not how we would want to consult routinely.
Staff will not be able to book any appointments, except for patients requiring urgent care that day, give out any test results or process any prescriptions.
The day after the upgrade, we will be extremely busy processing all the lab results – ensuring that all urgent abnormal results are looked at as priority, processing repeat prescriptions and getting everything up to date.
We will not be pre-booking any patients for the GPs or ANP on the following day (Wednesday 19th April) and we hope you understand why this day will not be a normal working day. We will however do our best to minimise all the disruption to our patients and get back to normal as soon as we can.
We have been told that this process should be seamless and that everything will go to plan, however this is a major IT upgrade. We have all got our fingers crossed as we all want to be back up and running as quickly as possible.
Thank you all for your understanding. We know this is not an ideal situation, and we are grateful for your help.
Thank you from all at the Braehead Medical Practice
