Flu

Flu Immunisation: the Facts

·        Every year in Scotland, two in three people in intensive care because of flu have a health condition

·        Adults with a health condition are at greater risk of flu-related complications and need extra protection

·        If you are aged 65 or over you also need extra protection because the way your immune system reacts to infection doesn’t work as well as you get older

·        It is the safest and most effective way to help protect yourself

The vaccine is the best defence against Flu

·        It takes around 10 days to work, so the sooner you get it the better

·        You have to be immunised every year because the virus constantly changes and your immunity reduces over time

·        The vaccine contains no live virus so it cannot give you flu

·        It’s free, for those aged 65 or over, or if you have a health condition or if you care for someone who does

Why fight Flu?

Flu is more than a bad cold. It is a highly infectious disease with symptoms that come on quickly and it can hit everyone. In the most serious cases, flu can bring on other complication which means people with flu may have to go to hospital or could even die.

Don’t Risk it!:

Scotland’s Chief Medical Officer recommends that you get the free flu vaccine every year if you:

·        Have a health condition (no matter what age you are and how fit and healthy you feel)

·        Are aged 65 or over
